Photography is always in search of the image. It shows what we see. As viewers, we tend to succumb to this error, because photography cannot capture what we see. From an endless series of moments that the eye perceives as movement, as the passage of time, the photograph cuts out a single moment, allowing it to last for a small eternity. Whether this concerns people, landscape or architecture - there are only gradual differences. Photography is therefore something highly artificial, a detail that is unrepeatable. Rainer Zerback uses his camera to explore man and nature in the awareness of civilization's interconnectedness and thus describes the state of our reality - in landscapes, portraits, characteristic situations, which are further condensed in the image through processing. Staging plays an important role here. The photographic image creates a reality that exists parallel to external reality, but is therefore no less truthful. Rainer Zerback thus becomes the architect of a world that is an essential part of our reality.
